"The School District of Whiteshell is located on the traditional lands and waters of Anishinabewaki ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ (Uh-nish-ih-NAH-beh-wah-ki), the territory of the Anishinaabe/Ojibwe people; the National Homeland of the Red River Metis; and the traditional territory of the Anishininiik (Uh-nish-ih-NEE-neek), the Oji-Cree people. We acknowledge that Manitoba includes lands that were and are the ancestral lands of the Inuit. We acknowledge the harms of the past, and the resulting intergenerational trauma that has resulted. We commit to moving forward in partnership with First Nations, Métis and Inuit in the spirit of truth and reconciliation. As School Board Trustees, we hold a position of profound influence over how future generations learn to relate to this place and its history. Our reflection on our relationship with Indigenous Peoples, these lands and water, and our specific action to support student well-being and inclusion, as well as specific actions of reconciliation such as access to land-based education, directly honours these nations. May our work in governance help weave respect, truth, and reciprocal care into the fabric of learning, ensuring students grow up knowing the true history of this place and their stewardship of its future."
